Ulasan untuk BaconReader for Reddit
Hate that Reddit tries to force you to use an app, and then the app they provide is slow and unreliable and littered with ads. Baconreader isn't perfect and the functions are very different and take a lot of getting used to. But it's faster and cleaner and more reliable, and the ad space is very reasonable. Definitely cannot complain and thank you for being a competent alternative
While searching my email, I stumbled on receipt for buying this app back in 2013. So, for almost a decade I've been using this app and felt I should drop a review. No software is perfect but BaconReader has been a smooth sailing so far. I've tried few reddit apps over the years but this is the only UI I prefer. Very simple & lets you focus on reading and doing crucial actions like voting, navigation etc with ease. The only thing I miss is the chat feature. Don't know if it's possible though.
This app sends you to the source of a news article when you click on the thumbnail. I like this. However, it does the same thing for videos now. Now it takes me to the Reddit website and it takes forever for the video to load, where as before the app simply played the video without being redirected. It's so trash. Edit: This app is no longer trash. It's now the opposite. Thanks for the fix guys. The app is amazing again!
I've used this app for a few years but I think it's time to find a new one. Seems like every update makes videos unwatchable, and there's just more and more ads. Edit: I stand corrected, I tried the video quality fix they suggested in the response and that seems to have solved it. Still more ads than I'd like, but at least I can see the content!
I'm now getting ads that auto-click when I'm scrolling. I'm not clicking on them. If I put my finger on the ad to scroll then it instantly opens the link to the ad. This isn't how my phone works with any other app. This only started happening in the last few months. I will update back to 5 stars if this is fixed. Alternatively, if there was an option to report an ad and then not see any more of those specific ads, that would mostly fix the problem.
I've been using this app for years and have been happy with it except for the last few months... Gfycat integration is not working correctly, and hasn't been for at least the last several months. Gfycat videos either show a black screen and never show, or show a black screen and then load after a long wait. Not sure what got broken, but gfycat videos play fine in other apps. Other than the Gfycat issues, this app is my favorite, but the problems are leading me to competitor apps, unfortunately.
I avoided updating this app for years because of how they changed how many gestures it takes to save a post to your profile. It used to be hold thumbnail, click save. Now it's, hold and click three totally different areas of the screen. If the old app hadn't broken down I never would have updated. Looking for alternatives. Also the thumbnails are tiny in the new version, smaller than the height of the post. Why?
Clunky for simple features like hiding post. Either have it auto hide which happens on accident all the time and you can't unhide it. That's a deal breaker for me. It's been along time and I don't see it getting better. You have to swipe click a drop down and select hide. And there is a option to are you sure? But that doesn't work on auto hide. Will try it if they fix it.
Bacon reader has been my go to for years to browse reddit in my phone. And the one app that I always recommend to my friends. But I simply cannot endorse an app that has ads that play sound as you scroll past, with no options to disable the sound. I understand the necessity for advertisements within a free app. But not being able to quietly browse through the app anymore. Is an immediate uninstall. I'll find elsewhere to browse reddit. A shame really, you guys had it right for so long.
