I really love this app. It provides a fantastic opportunity to meet people world wide and practice your chosen learning language with native speakers. As with all online experiences at times interactions can be mixed, but with time it becomes easy to work out how to interact safely and find people with a focus on learning language at a similar level.

This is a great unique app it makes communicating with people who speak different language extremely easy and helps you learn a language with ease. The app still needs additional features and improvements. For example I would like to be able to use this app in horizontal mode and receive notifications easier.

It's a social media chat interface. It would be useful if you could locate serious learners by searching their profile. Unfortunately the search capability is extremely limited, relegating the app to yet another flirting/dating app. It seems none of the language exchange apps really promote language learning. Maybe because it is too difficult to learn through online apps.

Great concept but the app crashes constantly. I really wish they had a dark mode for the app, the brightness is very uncomfortable when spending hours in the app. As for the translator, I wish it would update automatically as I change the text, currently I have to set the language repeatedly every time I change a word in the input section, in order to get the new output translation.

I like that you can speak with natives from the country your trying to learn but one of the biggest problems for me and that others are facing is that the messages most of the ti.e are not being sent, even if the user has full signal. Sometimes it can be one frustrating. I hope this can be fixed. But besides that I like the app truly

Great App really. I've been on it a little less than a year. If you can get passed all of the spam, weirdos, and daily app crashes, it's definitely good. I'm not mad about the minor inconveniences at all because of how helpful it's been to actually communicate with native speakers of the language I learn. I recommend the VIP if you can afford it. Having more translations is worth it and the translator on this app is very accurate... for the language I'm learning at least

PLUS 1. + Many useful features: correct your language-partner, transliteration, translation, learning more than one language(need money), audio messages :) MINUSES 1. - slow support team, that don't give you accurate instruction how to fix the issue. 2. - naming of some term/action that doesn't correspond with the expectations. 3. - restrict your functionality based on somebody's report on you NOT notifying you until you would understand that smth is wrong.

I'm learning Chinese and the app, overall, has very useful functions that are intuitive. I just wish the typing status of your partner was at the bottom of the chat so you can see it if you are actively in the process of typing too. I also find it strange HelloTalk does not have a sub language category specifically for Cantonese speakers. The dialect is very different for both speaking and written. It would be good if they could have their own section.

As a conversation practice resource, the people behind HelloTalk had a pretty good idea. I've been using this app since 2017, and I've made some really good friends who not only help me practice speaking, but also answer my grammar questions and even edit my essays (most people won't do this, so don't get your hopes up). BUT, ideas don't always translate to reality. Tech-wise, HT is lacking. I always forgave it because I thought, oh, maybe it's really slow because the app is too big and my cheap phone can't handle it. And maybe images don't load when I'm on Wi-Fi because our Wi-Fi is just bad (even though it works fine with literally everything else.) But at this point I've updated phones three times and our Wi-Fi is 5g. I'm done making excuses HT. Get yourself together and focus on making sure the basic functionality of the app works as it should before developing more useless features that you're just gonna hide behind a paywall. At this point, the only reason my friends and I haven't switched to Discord is because the text-to-speech feature is really helpful😭

It's a great way to learn and teach foreign languages. However, it has huge data transmission issues, both downloading and uploading. I've submitted multiple reports on these issues to technical support, but they keep getting worse. I urge the company to hire some competent data communication engineers because the current engineers are not getting the job done. The app will get 5 stars from me when and if they resolve their horrible data transmission problems.
