Boomerang from Instagram

While the app has always worked on all of my Samsung Android phones, I've noticed lately, the videos that are saved can't even be recognized by my device. If I look in my gallery, is looks like a corrupted file or something. Boomerang used to have its own gallery within the app, to see what you've saved, but I don't even see an option for that anymore, very bizarre. The app is totally unusable right now!

It doesn't work and hasn't for several months. My videos are saving either all black; therefore, I can't see the video or all green with lines through the video. This was such a fun app to use. Not anymore and is taking up space on my phone, so I guess I'll delete it since there doesn't seem to be a fixed as this has been an ongoing issue for months. Yall stink.

I had the same exact issue as one of the other reviewers, where I took many cool videos and when I went to look at them this weird green screen strip was there as well as this weird orange and black shadow effect almost like an old film effect. I'm really unhappy that all those videos I took turned out that way. This app has been very good but now I'm not so sure anymore.

Is anyone else having the same problem as me?! The app just all of a sudden stopped working where my videos look like green and black lines like when your screen breaks or something?! Started about 2 months ago for me..... I've had this app for a few months before that and it worked great then all of a sudden stopped. I've reached out to IG help email twice and still no reply!

Lately not working - completely distorted amd unseeable videos. Usually love the app, but today I took several great Boomerangs, saved them, and when I went to look at them again, all the files were completely distorted and just like a green screen with squiggly black lines.Such a bummer as they were great as well. I looked it up & says to be a problem using the app in full screen, but I tried the fix and it wasn't being used in full screen. Really disappointing that I lost those great moments.

I thought my new phone was malfunctioning but I see many have had the same issue with the videos not saving correctly... tried seeing if there was an update but there's not... what's going on with the app??? I use it for fun and my business IG .. so frustrating because I recorded a bunch of boomerangs for my business and realized it wasn't working way after I finished my product 😖

When I make a boomerang through the app, and save the video, it does not play back the way I recorded it. The video looks like it separates with a black and white version at the top of the screen and a colored version at the bottom. They don't look messed up when watching in the immediate playback. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. The problem doesn't occur when I make boomerangs in the Instagram app, just this one. I've emailed boomerang support with examples but the message has not been responded to.

Edit: They finally fixed the issue where it would double film the video. Works like it should now, though the camera seems more blurry than I remember it. Not a 5 star because of the quality of the video once uploaded and because it took so long to fix the problem, but all in all still a good app. (Original post)This app was great until I tried using it on my Galaxy S9. It does this double film thing. Only when you either save it or upload it. It saturates the color and moves it to make a double over the original video. Once it's fixed I'll gladly give them the review they deserve.

On newer Galaxy phones, the gifs are discolored. From what I can find, the consensus is that it's because the camera in the app is in full screen mode. However, in the settings, you can't take Boomerang out of full screen. The only way the gifs look good is if you post them in black and white. Previously, it didn't look discolored if you took the boomerang through the Instagram app, but I did it yesterday, and that's discolored too. This is a super annoying glitch that a lot of people seem to have. It'd be nice if Boomerang fixed it. I used to LOVE this app. If they fixed the discoloration issue, I would again.

When it works, it's brilliant! One of my favorite photo apps. It's like haiku: it teaches you about getting rid of extraneous stuff to sharpen an image and make a point. It's challenging and keeps you focused, which I love. Sometimes it seems to play the clip too fast and/or makes it too short to edit, which is frustrating, but that happens rarely; when it works, it's great: clever and witty and imaginative... one of the best.
